NATIONAL HIGH-POWER RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The TRPC was well represented during the 2014 National High Power Rifle Championships at Camp Perry, Ohio, and many of those members took home awards.

CWO4 Rick Tanner, OIC of the All-Guard Rifle team, coached his team to the Celtic Chieftain Trophy, which is awarded to the top-scoring Reserve component team in the National Infantry Trophy Team match. The Texas State Rifle Association Gold team, including John Ilzhoefer as a shooting member, finished third overall (beating all of the service teams).

John Ilzhoefer was a shooting member of the Texas State Rifle Association Gold team which won the Soldier Of Marathon Trophy, awarded to the top-scoring civilian team in the National Trophy Team match.

Jerry Iliff was a shooting member of the Texas State Rifle Association Silver team, which finished near the top in their category in both matches. Additionally, Jerry Iliff and Roger Lankford each walked the stage during the awards ceremony to formally receive their Distinguished Rifleman Badge, which they had earned earlier this year.

Mark Turner and Mark Leraas each earned points toward the award of the Distinguished Rifleman Badge.

CampPerryParticipantsTRPC fielded a team in each of the team matches; initially intended to be a junior team, but two kids had to back out at the last minute, so they were replaced with a coach and a father. Team members were juniors Hayden Ramage, Katie Davis, Heather Bittlestone, Josh Dickerson, with coach Mark Leraas and father David Ramage. The team finished twenty-fourth out of forty-five teams in its category in the National Trophy Team match, and ninth out of twenty-three teams in its category in the National Infantry Trophy team Match. More importantly, the team members were able to have the experience of competing at the national level.
